Education

CWF Education is a benefit for all members, from the newest angler to the most experienced. Our goal is to provide you with the skills and knowledge to have the best, most fun, and confident experiences while fly fishing. Fly fishing is a continual learning experience. CWF fly fishing education programs cover topics such as casting and fly fishing techniques, equipment, entomology and fly selection, knot tying, reading water, safety on the river and much more.

Fly Fishing Clinics

CWF holds multiple classroom, online and on-the-water clinics each season. Beginner clinics are typically held early in the spring and summer so there is lots of time to join our trips and practice skills all season.

Casting Skills Clinics

We partner with a Fly Fishers International (FFI) Master Casting Instructor and his instructor team for the best possible casting instruction available. For an extremely reduced rate (typically around $20 per member), you will receive second-to-none casting instruction that will greatly enhance your casting skills on the water.

Additional Education and Resources

CWF offers a range of educational resources and support for all experience levels, including advanced technique demonstrations on trips, special online topics and presentations, fly tying instruction,  gear lending (rods and reels available) and “Buddy Fishing” program (new members and beginners can request buddies during our planned trips). CWF has also formed a one-of-a-kind education collaboration with Colorado Mountain College where by members can sign up for still-water and running-water guided trips with fly fishing guide students at CMC.
