11 Mile Canyon Trip

Eleven Mile Canyon, near Lake George, CO

From Highway 24 in Lake George turn south on Country Road 96. At the fork in the road, veer right. The entrance station is manned during the day and a self-service fee tube is located at the entrance for use during hours that the station is close.

Most people are camping at Spillway or Riverside campground, but those campgrounds are filling fast. See camping/accommodations for more options.
Trip Details:

Eleven Mile Canyon is an outstanding tailwater fishery that holds nice brown and rainbow trout. The South Platte River flows from Eleven Mile Reservoir into Eleven Mile Canyon. The top two miles of Eleven Mile Canyon are Gold Medal catch-and release water. This part of Eleven Mile Canyon holds the greatest concentration and quality of trout, although there are lots of fish throughout the entire canyon.

This location is with in a few hours of Denver, so a day trip is not out of the

Fee: There is a $7 day-use fee to enter the canyon (a one-time charge while you are camping).

Skill level: All, wading is essential

Equipment: 5 or 6 weight rods, 5X leaders and 5X/6X tippets. Flies: BWO’s, PMD’s and midge patterns all work. Pheasant Tails, emergers and Black Mayflies will get their attention.
