Arkansas River, Salida Trip

April 23 - April 25

Are you new to the club or needing a little extra help to get started?  Look for “Buddy Here!” in the attendee list above. Reach out directly to Buddies to  coordinate. We can’t guarantee that CWF Buddy Volunteers will always be available on a trip but we’ll try!

POC (Name, Email, Phone):

Barb Conroy, barbconroy@msn.com, 720-335-0509

You can reach Salida area by either Highway 285 South or taking I25 to Hwy 50 and heading west. Depends on where you leave from. The "headquarters" will be at the Salida East Campground which is on Hwy 50 about 4 miles or so east of Salida.
Meet Time/Location:

Because of Covid, I am scheduling the Saturday meet-up for the Salida East Campground rather than Ark Anglers in town where we usually meet. The meet-up will be 9:00 a.m. and we can identify where who is fishing, etc. I doubt that we will be able to share cars too much by then so we may be caravaning still. We will see.
I will be at the campground from Thursday afternoon through Sunday, leaving Monday, in Site 1631 so you can maybe catch me there or leave a note. The web says there is no cell service in the campground.
Trip Details:
This will be updated as we get closer to the date with fishing conditions, recommended flies, etc.

I will be located at the Salida East campground that is part of the Arkansas River Headwaters Recreation Area, in site 1631. This is a primitive campground right on the river on Highway 50 about 3-4 miles east of Salida. You can make reservations through the Colorado Parks and Wildlife website and if you google a map, you can see which sites have partial shade. There is no water that I can tell at the campground so you will need to bring your water.

There are several other campgrounds in the Arkansas Headwaters area if you want to explore them.

PLEASE NOTE: YOU WILL NEED A DAY PASS OR ANNUAL COLORADO PARKS PASS TO PARK IN MOST OF THE PARKING AREAS ALONG THE RIVER. Here is the link for that information: https://cpw.state.co.us/placestogo/parks/ArkansasHeadwatersRecreationArea/Pages/Fees.aspx

The Four Seasons RV Park has electricity and sewer and if you decide to stay there, you can fill with water and then go to your site. The restrooms and showers will not be open and there will be no water at the individual sites.

There are lots of motels in Salida and some members have also used VRBO to get a room in the past. There are also some cabins at the Four Seasons RV Park almost next door to the Salida East Campground.
