  • HEART  – Cherry Creek Anglers is proud to present the Hartsel Easy Access River Trail. The Trail allows anglers of all physical abilities, barrier free access to the excellent fishing available on the Middle Fork, South Platte River. Through the system of graded trails, bridges and stream access points all anglers can experience a genuine fishing experience in this pristine river. The Trail is located approximately 3 miles north of the community of Hartsel, Park County CO, on County Road 439 within the Badger Basin State Wildlife Area.
  • Badger Basin is the roughly 50 mile section of river above Spinney Mountain Reservoir upstream to the confluences of the South Fork and Middle Fork. Tomahawk and Spinney SWA are the primary sections to fish. However, much of the middle fork has public access for those who want to venture out and find new water off the beaten path.
  • Landon Mayer writes: “One of the best ways to be successful in this area is to concentrate on the pools, foam line, and bend in the river. Because the flows are typically low when fishing conditions are right, the trout are concentrated in these areas…. In the late summer and fall months as the trout run up the river to the joining forks, rainbows, cutthroat, cuttbows, and browns can be found in good numbers with the larger pre spawn browns becoming the main attraction.”
  • Recommended flies:
Pheasant Tail #14, Pheasant Tail CDC #14-18, Egg Patterns, Red San Juan Worm #12, Hotwire Prince #16, Parachute Adams #12, Sweetgrass #8/#10, Swisher Foam #8-12, Natural Pheasant Tail #16, Dennis Parrawullf PMD #16, Wolly Bugger Olive/Black/Purple #10-12
