From the Denver area, take US-285 south to Fairplay. Go through the only stoplight in Fairplay and turn right on Platte Drive. Go about a 1/2 mile to Beach Road. Turn right and go down the hill to the parking lot at the lake - Fairplay Beach.

From Morrison at US-285 and C-470, travel time is about 1.5 hours.
WHEN: June 12, 2021, 9:30 am - mid-afternoon
WHERE: Fairplay Beach in Fairplay, CO

** The Beginner clinic is now full. Contact Cyndy Scholz, education@colowomenflyfishers.org to be placed on the wait list. **

Join CWF for the “On-The-Water” Beginner Clinic. Fairplay Beach is an in-town lake that is stocked, very accessible and fun fishing! The South Platte River also flows into and out of the lake. We will be able to learn about both lake and river fishing during the clinic. Rigging, casting, fly selection, fishing, landing fish, water features and reading the water, etc. will be covered.

Fairplay is about a 2 hour drive from Denver, so plan accordingly. Come spend the night before or after, as some of us will fish around the South Park area on the next day, Sunday, June 13. Make it a weekend! And for those of you heading to fish the next week at Eleven Mile, stay even longer.

Bring - your own rod/gear, flies, waders, net, boots, water, food for snacks and lunch as needed, polarized sunglasses, hat, sunscreen, rain gear, etc. Dress according to the weather reports. We will provide a suggested fly list to bring before the clinic.

If you do not have a rod - buy/get one, borrow one from a friend or neighbor, perhaps rent from a fly shop. Due to COVID-19, CWF will not be loaning out rods.

We will have a limited number of spots (28) for beginners (20) as well as for volunteers as buddies (8).

More information will be emailed to clinic participants as the date for the clinic gets closer.

Cyndy Scholz and Mary Manka will be leading the clinic.

I checked and most dispersed camping near Fairplay is closed until June 15th, my apologies I thought they opened up earlier. I'm still looking into some areas for dispersed camping. Antero Reservoir or below Montgomery Reservoir in the Alma State Wildlife area may be the closest campgrounds.

Middlefork RV park is in town and has full hookups. https://www.middleforkrvpark.com/

The Hand Hotel is fun, but just remember it's haunted.
531 Front St, Fairplay, CO 80440
Hours: Open 24 hours

Riverside Inn Hotel is also nice and close to the clinic. This is a Wyndham hotel.

For those tent camping there are small sites at the Beach. There are picnic tables, small, level tent areas, and port a potties. No water though, bring your own. The sites are not next to the parking lot, but are only a short walk.
