Clear Creek Trip

August 21

Are you new to the club or needing a little extra help to get started?  Look for “Buddy Here!” in the attendee list above. Reach out directly to Buddies to  coordinate. We can’t guarantee that CWF Buddy Volunteers will always be available on a trip but we’ll try!

The meeting location and time will be posted on CWF Talk as we get closer to 8-21. I expect we will be meeting either somewhere in Golden or a little ways up the canyon on HWY 6 around 8-9am.

Trip Details:

Smaller rods and tenkara rods are ideal for the creek or you can easily use a 9 foot 5 weight rod with 5-6X tippet. The banks and creek can be rocky and a little steep in places, therefore a wading stick can be helpful.

Here are recommendations for flies from flycastusa:
The dry dropper or hopper dropper fished along the banks and through the pockets has been the most effective. Lead with an average sized stimulator dry fly like a Micro Chubby, Amy’s Ant (MVP right now) or Elk Hair Caddis followed by one or more smaller searchers/attractors or imitations. As far as droppers go, you’ll need to experiment as it really depends on the day. That said, caddis are making a regular appearance and we’ve found the Electric Caddis and Sparkle Pupa to be solid options. Otherwise, smaller searchers/attractors as well as midge or baetis imitations like Zebra Midges, Black Beauties and RS2s have been effective options. If you’re seeing trout actively rising, rig up a Micro Caddis or Resting Caddis followed by a Parachute Sally, Parachute Adams or Griffith’s Gnat.
