South Park #1

October 2 @ 9:30 am - 5:00 pm

Are you new to the club or needing a little extra help to get started?  Look for “Buddy Here!” in the attendee list above. Reach out directly to Buddies to  coordinate. We can’t guarantee that CWF Buddy Volunteers will always be available on a trip but we’ll try!

10/2/202110/2/2021Location/Directions:

Tomahawk State Wildlife area is on Highway 9 about 1/2 way between Fairplay and Hartsel. There are 2 entrances, lets meet at the entrance by County Rd 24 (not Highway 24), or Garo, or I call the compound. Lets meet at the old barn which is on the right side of the road coming from Fairplay, the same side of the road as County Road 24 (dirt - not Highway 24) across the street from the "compound". Lets meet at 9:30 am. From there we can head back to one of the several fishing areas.
Meet Time/Location:

Lets meet at 9:30 am in the lot of the old barn. This is on the same side of the road as County Road 24 (dirt road - not Highway 24). Across the road is the "compound". If you are unsure where to meet we can also meet at the Sinclair Truck Stop in Fairplay on Highway 285. Let's meet there at 9 AM to head over to the other meet site. Just let me know if you want to meet at the Sinclair.
Trip Details:
Tomahawk has several different access points. Once we meet we can decide to either fish an access close to the road, or take the longer (maybe 1.5 mile hike) to a lesser fished area. Tomahawk is a fairly easy river to access, there are no trees, the bed is mostly solid with good footing. Hopper/droppers will work great, caddis patterns, orange stimulators on top with a green caddis also work well.
Camping/Accommodations:

There are several spots to stay in Fairplay:

Riverside Inn
Hand Hotel
Western Inn

There is dispersed camping in the National Forest. Contact Mary for spots.
