Did you know that a tailwater river is a river where the flows are controlled by a dam, while a freestone river flows seasonally based on the water supply available through rainfall and snow?
Tailwater refers to waters located immediately downstream from a hydraulic structure, such as a dam, bridge or culvert. A freestone river flows seasonally, based on the water supply. In the summer and fall, freestone rivers grow warm and have reduced flow because water from snow melt is less readily available.
